About Us
A group of likeminded people – let’s go ride our bikes!
Jersey Rouleurs is a cycling club in Jersey (Channel Islands) embracing the social side of riding race bikes. Coffee, Cake and Banter, the main reason to get out of bed before 09:00 at the weekend.
Coffee
Do you ride to a coffee stop or do you stop riding at a coffee shop? Is it all about the coffee? For many years cyclists all over the world have ridden about and either met for, during or after their ride at a coffee shop. Why not Tea or Beer? (Don’t ask Malc about the beer). The traditional coffee of the bearded cap wearing cyclist is the double espresso, he is as serious about the bitter taste as he is the symmetry of the tan lines on his thighs (rule #7) and the matching kit he is wearing (rule#18).
The Velominati have a book of rules for this kind of cyclist (Click here to read the rules#).
Cake
Pannetone (Pan-eh-Tony?), a lesser spotted Italian derived bread-cake frequently found on a side plate accompanying a double espresso next to a cap wearing bearded cyclist and a parked custom carbon stallion, not for us! Having your cake and eating it is now possible. We know!! We have found utopia. With the Jersey Rouleurs we have found that a brisk ride that leaves you feeling….. ‘slightly puffed’, will burn enough calories to justify (to yourself) that the coffee & cake consumed at the stop have been burned off already AND, you still have to ride home so leaving space for that evening’s glass of wine. Calorie balance equals ZERO. (ed note, this has in no way been proven and is highly likely to be complete fabrication).
Banter
Wobbly wheels and clashing colours, too much kit and frozen toes, it is only natural that we highlight our fellow riders misfortunes and miscalculations yet desperate not to be the source of the BANTER. Most important of all, when we are that source, we NEVER take it personally. Some will use the banter as self analysis for self improvement, if they feel it may be justified. Group riding is like an orchestra, it only takes a few to be ‘out of sync’ and it looks/sounds terrible. Always look straight ahead when talking to the person next to you, and project your voice. Be aware of what is happening in front of you by keeping an eye on the rider in front’s feet. If he/she isn’t peddling then chances are that they are coming backwards towards you.
We try not to be like the bearded one, a Jersey Rouleur is a bit rebellious in his mind as we just like coffee, generally with milk and almost always with biscuits/fruit loaf/cake/gateaux and we like to chat.
