CYCLING + Coffee, Cakes & Banter
A cycling club in Jersey (Channel Islands) embracing the social side of riding race bikes
Cycling and coffee go together like spagheti & meatballs or Pimms & polo. Cyclists have been drinking coffee as a ‘get up and go’ or a ‘pick me up’ since…… ever. The Jersey Rouleurs use coffee stops as an excuse for a chat, normally at the same time a slice of cake is wolfed like a hungry dog would devour a…… meatball.
Victoria sponge, coffee & walnut, fruit loaf, dark treacle tangerine & ginger or a bakewell tart. Are our taste buds excited by the prospect of our existing knowledge of taste, or is it the combination of expectant flavours that entice us to masticate carefully and purposefully on our choice of accompaniment to our coffee?
We can chat on a ride for the few seconds or brief minutes that we are side by side, then it is time to rotate and the conversation is on hold for another 10 minutes as the pack shuffles about and we are side by side again. How many different ‘chats’ didn’t we complete today? Half a story?
